The Railway Challenge, organised by the IMechE Railway Division, provides a brilliant opportunity for aspiring teams of university students, apprentices and graduates to compete in a challenging industry-specific competition, showcasing skills, expertise, knowledge, and business acumen.
The annual Challenge cycle begins in October and culminates at the weekend challenge event in late June/early July of the following year hosted at Stapleford Minature Railway
This year the University of Derby and Alstom team put forward a great vehicle against the strong National and International competition, winning yet more first place cups to add to the bulging Trophy Case.
Despite the teams amazing effort, Team UoD&A were overall second for a second consecutive year, beating the 2022 and 2023 winners into 3rd and 4th places but falling behing last years 4th place finisher, The University of Sheffield.
Team UoD&A again showed expertise in the Energy Recovery challenge, exceeding double the distance covered by all other teams combined. The Team also won Traction and Ride Comfort challeges and were the only team to have a 100% reliability record over the previous two competitions.
Full results and pictures for this years competition are published on the IMechE Past Events webpage.
